![]() Group Integration Physicians have always enjoyed the luxury of being able to practice independently or in small groups. This independence has now become a liability in running practices and negotiating with managed care organizations and hospitals. The best hope is to join with colleagues into larger groups to become more efficient and be better able to negotiate for adequate reimbursement. LET MMS DO THE BUSINESS SO YOU CAN DO THE MEDICINE The two basic models of group integration include the corporate model and the independent model. Corporate: practices join and are controlled and managed by the same corporation. This model is typically difficult to disengage from and usually involves penalties. All business decisions are made by the corporation with a board of physicians providing input into these decisions. Independent: practices who wish to form an integrated group contract with a management company to provide the services needed for the new group and to bring in the legal and accounting expertise to form the new group. A board of directors is constituted with a representative from each practice and an executive committee is formed. All major decisions are made by the doctors with input from the management company. Practice entry and exit rules are determined by the physician board. MMS can provide all the resources for the development and management of integrated groups. Our services can be customized to conform to the requirements of the physician board. Group Expansion Solo practitioners are finding themselves at a disadvantage in their inability to control their overhead. Larger groups are findings that their space and resources are not being optimally utilized. It is often to everyone's advantage for larger groups to attract the solo practitioner for their mutual benefit. There are many ways for a solo practitioner to join an established group. MMS has experience as a neutral party in negotiating terms that are beneficial to all parties. |
